Provost is located at the junction of provincial highway # 13 and secondary highway # 899, just 17.6 kilometers west of the Saskatchewan border, almost equal distance from the Alberta capital, Edmonton (290 km southeast) and Saskatoon, SK (274 km). Provost is accessible by air, railway and bus. The Provost Airport features a 75’ x 5000’ foot runway, is less than four minutes from downtown and is the largest airport directly between Edmonton and Saskatoon. Provost is 177 km south of Lloydminster or 483 km northeast of Calgary.

Provost's climate is warm and temperate, ranging on average between 17.1C and -16.6C over the year. The average annual preciptation is 132.33 cm and Provost enjoys over 2200 hours of sunshine each year.

The Provost district is noted for its rich farmlands and is conveniently located near many recreational areas. Dillberry Lake, with a provincial park, is 44 km northeast of the Town and is lined with summer cottages along the shore and blessed with good trout fishing. Shorncliffe Lake Park, near Czar (48 km west) is another popular location as is Capt. Ayre Lake campsite (32 km west) and Hansmen Lake (10 km west).
