“Computer Tutor” Drop In:   Open-to-the-public computer lab and 1-on-1 computer tutoring to the community.  Coaching and assistance in basic computer literacy, Word, Excel, Email, Facebook and using the Internet.  No appointment is necessary.

Introduction to Windows 7:     Duane Richmond from DR Technologies (New Instructor) will show you the ins and outs of navigating through this operating system; following will be a time for questions and answers.  Please bring your own Laptop with Windows 7 installed!

Basic Bookkeeping/Alberta Payroll Regulations:   Are you starting a Business? Overwhelmed with your paperwork pile? In this course, you will learn the basics of bookkeeping. Learn what your accounting responsibilities are, how to record transactions, the basics of financial statements and how to prepare your files for the year end. This course is suitable for small business owners or office professionals with accounting responsibilities.  Learn all you need to know about your payroll obligations. In this course the topics will include employment standards, payroll deductions and remittances, recording benefits, T4’s and year end reporting, and issuing Record of Employments. Course will be instructed by Lisa Rohr, who is a Payroll Certified Practitioner through Canadian Payroll Association. A must have for any office administrator with payroll responsibilities.

QuickBooks 2012 — Level I & II:    QuickBooks accounting software to manage your basic business accounting needs.  Topics include invoicing, accounts payable, managing accounts receivables, GST, account reconciliations, and basic financial reporting. Also using customizing templates and QuickBooks features, advanced financial reporting, payroll, journal entries, creating budgets and forecasts, department tracking, job costing and memorized and recurring transactions. These features are sure to save you time and allow you to use QuickBooks to its full capabilities.

Introduction to Microsoft Word:    Are you new to Microsoft® Word?  Through this introductory workshop learn to create documents, work with text, format your document, add pictures and proof and print your project.  The uses for this popular word processing program are endless.  Learn the basics to get you started in using the program so that you are ready to explore the rest!

Time Management & Organizational Skills:   Today’s world is so busy! Time Management and organizational skills are often key components that affect our productivity and stress levels. In this workshop, learn methods for managing tasks, work effectively, organize and prioritize your time: both independently and as part of a team.

Simply Accounting 2012 — Level I and II:   Manage your business accounting needs by using the Simply Accounting Software. This twelve hour workshop will cover: company setup, invoicing, accounts payables, accounts receivables, GST, accounts reconciliations, and basic financial reporting.  You will learn to customize accounting software program to manage your business accounting needs. Topics include: recording and tracking inventory, using the Simply Accounting payroll module, modifying and customizing reports, letters and forms.

GED Prep:   12 week Online Course:  Norquest College
Students study on their own schedule, in their own home and at their own pace.  GED Prep prepares you for the General Educational Development Test, which is a high school equivalency exam.  You will receive instruction in basic math and geometry, essay writing, grammar, reading, science and social studies.  A tutor is available online to students at no cost, both during the day and evening, but must be booked ahead of time.
No formal pre-requisite; however, grade 10 reading and math skills are recommended.  Grading is Complete/Incomplete.  Credits (Academic):  3:00.

Health & Safety Employability Courses:

 

Class 1 or 3 Drivers Training:   With a Class 1 Drivers License you will be able to drive any motor vehicle, or combination of vehicles, other than a motorcycle.  The minimum learning or licensing age is 18.  With a Class 3 Drivers License you will be able to operate any motor vehicle, or combination of vehicles that the holder of a Class 5 operator's license may operate.  It includes a single motor vehicle with three or more axles or a motor vehicle with three or more axles towing a trailer with one or more axles, if the trailer is not equipped with airbrakes.

This course will be at the beginning of February with dates and time to be confirmed.  Lakeland College will be the instructors for this course.

 

Standard First Aid Recertification:   Is your certificate about to expire? Why take the whole course over? Take this course. This course is available to anyone who currently has a valid First Aid Certificate. You must bring your current First Aid Certificate St. John or Red Cross.

Standard/Child Care First Aid Certification:   Injuries can happen anytime, anywhere. This Standard Level First Aid course includes things like: child/infant resuscitation, wound care, burns, eye injuries, poisons, bites, stings, medical conditions, and much more. It is required for childcare providers according to Alberta Family Services. It is the recommended First Aid course for all persons who work with children. This course includes lessons and final exam.

Mental Health First Aid Canada:  Mental Health First Aid Canada teaches participants how to help someone showing signs of a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.  The course aims to teach people to:        

· Identify when a person may be a danger to themselves or others and take steps to preserve life

· Recognize the early signs of mental health problems and provide help to prevent more serious problems of developing

· Provide comfort to someone with a mental health problem and support them in the recovery of their mental illness

· Guide a person toward the appropriate professional help

This 12 hour interactive course is provided in a supportive group learning environment.  Practical skills are taught using a model that is easy to remember and apply in real-life settings.

Food Safety:     ONLINE COURSE (NAIT):  FNM90    Combine the skills you bring to the table with certification in product and workplace safety.  Whether you work in a commercial kitchen, production plant or restaurant, you will benefit fro learning guidelines and procedures for keeping your work area clean, sanitized and safe for others.  Food safety courses will also prepare you for government regulated certification and will often satisfy employer requirements.
